Son of the Great River is an adventure story set during the earliest moments of civilization, where the boy Saffu is forced to leave his tribe to travel to the land of cities and kings. It is a short novel meant for an intermediate audience and combines high adventure and subtle fantasy with a historically accurate account early civilization and the timeless difficulty of coming of age. The book crosses between the native culture of our early ancestors and the new kingdoms of the Bronze Age, to represent the struggle not only of individual young people but also the cost of civilization.
