I’m currently the Digital Humanities Specialist at Stanford University where I spend my time building absurdly esoteric digital media.  I’m also ABD at UC Merced, where my focus is on environmental history and the digital humanities.

Some courses I’ve taught:

Climate Change and World History Syllabus

Introduction to Environmental History Syllabus

As an academic, I’ve spent much of my effort trying to understand the integration of environmental systems with historical systems, and look to the work of Sing Chew as my model.

My claim that the university needs Wikipedia more than Wikipedia needs the university seems to have become a favorite quote for people analyzing academia and Wikipedia’s tempestuous relationship.  It comes from a presentation I did at Wikimania a while back.

As a Wikipedia contributor, I’ve been lax of late.  The article on Roman Arabia is mostly from an old paper I presented as an undergraduate and the substance of it has been translated into three languages (Though the tidbit about the birthplace of Philip the Arab has made it into many of the other languages, I suppose it’s the most interesting fact I presented).
